Venom used social media in order to promote their movie which turned out to be a very successful addition to the Marvel franchise. Through the use of things like Snapchat filters, YouTube adverts and other sources of social media Sony was able to make Venom a popular hit before it was even released. Snapchat is now one of the largest social media platforms around reeling in up to 400 million users per day. This is a massive market to target and the way that they did this was through the use of a Snapchat filter. Snapchat filters are basically exactly what they sound like they are filters that you can use within the app to change the way you look. Recently Snapchat allowed the option where for a certain fee companies could have their own custom filter on the app which people would see and use and in turn spread the word about the movie.

Another way in which Sony used social media to advertise Venom was by getting a famous artist to write a song specifically for the movie. In the case of Venom they got famous rap artist Eminem to write a song for the movie. In his most recent album 'Kamikazi' there is a song called 'Venom'. With over 35 million views on YouTube and million more across other platforms its safe to say that by using this popular artist to promote their movie Sony definitely got the word out. Using musicians is a very good way of advertising a movie or show without being to 'in your face'. People will appreciate the good music and hence forth be attracted to what it is about and aimed towards.

Social media is an incredibly effective way of getting your product out there so that people see it. Following on from this Venom has a main target audience of older teenagers and young adults. Typically the age group that uses social media the most are teenagers and young adults therefore by using social media to advertise their film they are reaching an audience of mostly older teens and young adults. This happens to be the same target audience as the movie Venom and therefore they are able to connect with their target audience. This is an example of below the line advertising since they are able to target a certain group of people by using social media as a form of advertising.
